In the night, under the dark and obscure light and shadow, we recall the figures which have been taken into our unconscious during the daytime.
Each day, on the way to work or back to home or just out through the window pane, we store many memories of places with our eyes without noticing; a municipal building, an apartment, a round-a-bout, or a pedestrian bridge. Sometimes seen with joy, sometimes with agony, and sometimes with a neutral mind.
Such a repetition of subconscious recognitions are accumulated layer by layer in our unconscious. When we see these figures in the darkness, the emotions and memories which are embedded in them subconsciously begin to rise to the surface.
In that place, the simplest reference to it is evocative enough. In Night Walk I represent such places in the darkness, hoping that chemistry will happen, between the work and myself, myself and the viewer.
After working as an office clerk in Japan for more than 20 years, I decided to concentrate into painting. During this 20 years, there are many recollections of such places, some with joy, agony, or even indifference. Now I recall such places on canvas.
"Night Walks" are such an approach as to reach to that place.
